About The Artist

Highway Wolf emerges as a spectacular thematic musical project led by the talented musician and composer Mick Hellmam (Wreckless Strangers, The Go to Hell Man Band, Marco & the Polos), who is accompanied by his skillful bandmates Tal and Amber Morris.

With a musical synergy that becomes palpable from the first listen, this creative trio of musicians manages to create a proposal that goes beyond being just an incredible auditory experience. From their distinctive name, which not only alludes to wolves but also seeks to evoke the wild instinct in human beings that we also share with our four-legged friends, to the impressive visual art that accompanies each of their pieces, Highway Wolf is undoubtedly an exciting musical project with which many will identify.

About The Release

As mentioned at the beginning of this article, "In The City" is part of "Purdie's Dream," the debut EP by the band Highway Wolf. It features 5 spectacular tracks that blend Classic Rock with elements of Folk, Jazz, and Blues. It was officially released on October 28, coincidentally during the Hunter's Moon, but... this is no coincidence. Do you know where the album's name comes from? Ahh... As you've already noticed, this band has taken care even in the minutest details to create a piece of art of the highest quality that sparks subtle curiosity, inviting listeners to always find surprises as they delve deeper into the information.

It turns out that the title "Purdie's Dream" was primarily inspired by Mick's faithful canine companion, "Purdie," named in honor of the legendary drummer "Bernard Purdie," known for popularizing the famous beat "Purdie's Shuffle" during the 1970s. In this way, all the tracks function as a key piece to take the listener on a sonic journey that urges them to listen to "The Call" and confront our most authentic and wild side.

Recorded at Laughing Tiger Studios in San Rafael, CA, and self-produced by Tal Amber and Mick, this release also features the participation of numerous familiar musicians and friends of the band, adding a higher level of depth and significance to the proposal.

In-Depth Analysis

"In The City" is simply a box of surprises! It kicks off with percussion reminiscent of the pure essence of New York jazz, and magnificent blues elements driven by exquisite electric guitar licks and a piano that adds a touch of boldness and sensuality to the mix. This song effectively captures the listener's attention from the start.

True to its main theme and title, "In The City" evolves in terms of sound and structure as it unfolds, introducing new musical elements in each of its sections, much like a stroll through the bustling city. It feels like navigating the streets amid towering skyscrapers, never knowing what awaits around the next corner.

This sense of constant evolution and dynamism is enhanced throughout its entirety as elements are gradually added, creating surprises and breaks between sections that not only give rise to captivating rhythmic changes and chord progressions but also showcase an impeccable use of the sonic dynamic range. The entrance and exit of each instrument feel vibrant and full of life, giving rise to an experience that is vivid and rich in colorful auditory nuances.

However, its lyrics delve even further into this sort of search and exploration, but from a perspective more closely tied to emotions and feelings. "In The City" tells the story of the difficulties involved in surviving in the city, especially when going through tough times, and how this conflict generates great expectations to discover what lies beyond the towering buildings and neon lights. It suggests that often, even though we perceive our surroundings as hostile, it still represents our comfort zone, and our true destiny and purpose lie out there, beyond the horizon we can see.

Wait... That's not all; "In The City" has its own Music Video!

That's right. This magnificent musical piece also comes with its own music video, starring none other than "Purdie." We highly recommend checking out this incredible video, which, through its 3 minutes and 45 seconds, takes "In The City" to the next level, providing an immersive audiovisual experience that will inspire you to dare to listen to the call of the horizon and discover your true destiny and the things that await you there.
