Independent artist AYLU. has released Lights On, the second single from her upcoming debut album, Emotional Parasite. Following the unapologetic energy of her lead single fuckgirl, the new track continues the artist's blend of alternative rock intensity and contemporary pop sensibilities, driven by heavy guitars and a relentless attitude.
With Lights On, AYLU. explores the intoxicating feeling of gaining someone's attention for the first time. The track takes that initial rush of falling for someone new and transforms it into something darker, continuing the cynical and high-energy character established during her current musical era.
The release is accompanied by a cinematic visual universe shaped around the concepts AYLU. describes as "Pop Horror" and "Dark Glamour." In the visual concept for Lights On, a character evolves from a state of vulnerability into a fierce hunter, with the storyline portraying her escape from a heartbreak she deliberately caused.
AYLU. describes the creative process behind the song as an exploration of the power that comes with holding someone's attention for the first time, filtered through the darker identity of the "fuckgirl" character. According to the artist, Lights On turns that feeling into a "huntress ritual."
Produced and managed entirely independently, Lights On reflects AYLU.'s work as a conservatory-trained multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. Emerging in 2020, her project combines the intensity of alternative rock with contemporary pop hooks, drawing inspiration from the angst of 2000s rock and modern pop sensibilities.
