Nyctophobia

Stare At The Abyss

Detalles

"Nyctophobia" by Stare at the Abyss is one of those tracks that hit me hard from the first listen, and I had to jump at the opportunity to work with the band. When I first met the guys, I was genuinely shocked—they were just teenagers at the time, yet their proficiency and expertise on their instruments blew me away. The moment I heard a demo version of the song, I knew I had to reach out to them and collaborate on what was going to be an incredible project.

The song itself is an exploration of deep, unsettling themes, particularly focusing on sleep paralysis and the unknown dimension that lies within our subconscious. It draws inspiration from the quote, "Look into the abyss, and the abyss will look into you," capturing the sense of unease and confrontation with one's darkest fears. This quote, attributed to Friedrich Nietzsche, perfectly encapsulates the essence of the track.

What makes "Nyctophobia" even more powerful is the personal connection the song has to the band's vocalist, Tomás. His own experiences with nightly nightmares and the emotional toll they've taken on him are at the core of the song's creation. This personal connection gives the track a raw, emotional intensity that is palpable in every chord and note.

During the production, my main goal was to make sure the song captured its full dark and terrifying essence while also maintaining its power. I wanted the track to immerse the listener in an unsettling atmosphere from the start, conveying the desperation and internal turmoil that comes with the themes of the song. My aim was to make the song as intense as possible, making the listener feel as though they were experiencing the fear and confusion Tomás expresses, leaving no room for escape until the very last note. The final result is a track that not only grabs attention but also forces the audience to confront the chilling emotional depth it portrays.
