Carley Varley Reinvents Herself With Introspective New Single “Monochrome”

"Monochrome" is the first single from Carley Varley’s ‘Anatomy of Loss’ EP, representing the stage of anger in the five stages of grief. Carley’s EP will focus on the stages of grief after a relationship finally breaks down, covering depression, bargaining, anger, denial and finally acceptance.

Carley was previously a Pop artist before stepping into her more rocky genre, growing up listening to bands like Paramore, Linkin Park, Evanescence and The Pretty Reckless, Carley felt her voice and songwriting was far more suited to this genre. "Monochrome" embodies the feeling of rage, confusion and frustration after being away from someone you once loved and realizing they are not the person you thought they were.

Carley takes her songwriting to new levels as this track in particular resonated with her situation after her 11 year relationship ended. Completely heartbroken, she decided to put her soul into melodies and lyrics to help with the grief and loss she felt. Monochrome may be a revenge rock song, but also highlights the betrayal a person feels when they realized the years they loved someone weren’t exactly wasted, but tainted.

The rest of the EP will continue with the same energy, focusing on each stage and highlighting the feelings with a heavy backing of guitars and powerhouse vocals.

Carley and her band members Fred Sedgeley, Alex Tompkins and Jordan Shepherd are set to perform at The Fleece Bristol this July, The Bedford London in October and Chaplin’s Cellar Bar Bournemouth in November. After a busy start to the year performing at Icebreaker Festival and Teddy Rocks Festival, they are sure to give incredible performances. Carley and the band hope to perform at Download, Isle of Wight Festival and Glastonbury one day, they are hopeful now they’ve found their sound and songwriting niche that this dream will become a reality.

Carley has spent the past eight years building her career as a solo artist, performing tirelessly across pubs, bars, festivals, and private events. As one of the most in-demand musicians in Hampshire and Dorset, she often plays up to six shows each weekend. Now, with a solid band behind her and a growing catalogue of original material, Carley is focused on bringing her own songs to the forefront — leaving covers behind and stepping fully into her own voice.
