In-Depth Analysis:

‘Back To Life’:

If there's something that immediately stands out about this song, it's its captivating title, as ‘Back to Life,’ manages to resonate deeply with listeners' consciousness at first sight. But wait a moment - aren't we supposed to be here and living in the present moment? Well, we regret to inform you that it's not always the case. For those of us who have weathered great storms, we strongly agree that there's a huge difference between "living" and "being alive," and this song couldn't express it more clearly. Through its captivating lyrics and vibrant melodies, The Maze masterfully embodies an intense narrative that challenges our own existence, inviting listeners to embrace inner strength and embark on the pursuit of those things that give meaning and purpose to our lives.

With an instrumental backdrop boasting an impressive cinematic vibe and vocals that will send shivers down your spine, this song takes us on a spectacular auditory journey. Over the course of 4 minutes, we are treated to a highly dynamic musical structure that fearlessly showcases the band's full potential at its peak splendour.

Travelling through deep and introspective verses, cathartic choruses, powerful instrumental sections, and even featuring surprising scream vocals that will leave your heart racing, ‘Back to Life’ bravely delves into those moments when it seems like everything is turning against us, and continuing to fight seems like an impossible task.

Many times, the path we traverse throughout our lives seems to be foggy enough that we cannot see where we should take our next step, or sufficiently twisted and complex like a "Maze" from which we cannot escape. However, ‘Back to Life’ stands imposingly as that anthem of strength which we all need to see things clearly again. It works as the light that seeks to guide us back on our path home, regardless of the adversities and complexities that may arise, emphasising the importance of fearlessly fighting against them for our own well-being and for the sake of those who truly love us.

‘Little Star’:

"Little Star" marks a true milestone for the band, not only because it's their fourth official release to date, but also because it's where they have definitively ventured into a sound that we hadn't heard in their repertoire before. But beware! If you're one of our loyal followers and joined us for ‘Crossroads’ premiere (you can find the full review here), when we mentioned that The Maze embodies pure versatility, we really meant it. "Little Star" not only surprises with a 180-degree turn towards a new and refreshing sound but also carries a nostalgic vibe that fans of the pop-punk scene will undoubtedly enjoy and deeply appreciate.

Featuring the notable participation of Sofie K. Flenskow, Johan Flenskow’s life partner, leading vocals with impressive skill and performance, this powerful composition, while a standalone piece from ‘Back to Life’, shares a striking relationship with it. It addresses a very similar theme but skillfully positions itself on the opposite side, revealing both sides of the same coin.

"The song is about the people we love the most who think they're not good enough, and the struggle with this as parents... A mother's love..."

Johan Flenskow - Musician & Composer

Composed by Johan and Sofie K Flenskow, together with Liam Espinoza, ‘Little Star’ presents us with the concept of internal struggle from an emotional and intriguing perspective. This time, it places us as protagonists of a story where we take on the role of a counterpart witnessing this internal struggle from the outside, revealing the challenge of not being able to intervene beyond what we can or want to do further, as this is a unique process for each individual.

Here is where the band bravely shows us how the love we feel for our loved ones, especially for our sons and daughters, is deeply touched by the pain caused by their suffering, which we often unconsciously make our own in order to sacrifice everything we have and are for those special persons in our lives. In this way, their emotionally-charged lyrics not only aims to stand as a beautiful dedication for those we love, but also manages to restore the true meaning and importance of unconditional love to its natural state, thereby giving their theme great relevance in today's social context. While we are surrounded by an apparently increasingly ‘apathetic’ society, this song manages to touch even the younger generations with its important message.

‘Little Star’ reminds us that love knows no bounds and has no requirements, because when it is real and genuine, we would be willing to move mountains to let the people we appreciate know they can always count on us.

The Future of ‘The Maze’.

The band's genuine intention to touch the hearts of music lovers is evident with every new release, and they have certainly proven it once again with these magnificent songs. It's no surprise that they have already amassed over 19,000 listeners worldwide, and they hope to continue being discovered by hundreds of thousands of new loyal fans. That's why they have been working on new material in the studio, which will soon see the light this year, promising to surprise their followers with more than just music (🎥).
